To conclude, hyper sexuality is an obsession with sex that can have a devastating effect on people’s relationships and lives. Sex addicts have sex for many different reasons. Researchers did a brain scan to see how much dopamine was released in an addict’s brain when they thought about sex. Their brains did not react the same as the brains of drug addicts; therefore sex addiction could not be classified as an addiction. These findings have made it difficult for researchers to find a suitable name for sex addiction but they settled on hyper sexuality. The brain scan evidence also made many sceptical of sex addiction; they believe that people can use sex addiction as an excuse for risky behavior.
My article explained the brain scan test whose results were shocking and changed the way people viewed sex addiction. My academic article illustrated the difficulties with naming sex addiction because everyone experiences their addiction differently. It also explained how childhood trauma and family relationships effect the chance of being hyper sexual. |
The interview with Lisa Marie went more in depth into how child maltreatment influences risky sexual behavior. She did not believe that sex addiction was a real problem which showed me the opposing point of view of my articles. She believed that it would be very hard to diagnose and an addictive amount of sex is a matter of opinion. She did teach me a lot about porn addiction which was not mentioned in my articles.
All three sources of my information were very useful and taught me different things about sex addiction. The sources agreed that hyper sexuality is a debatable subject and we have not yet been able to categorize it. However, with further investigation we will determine whether it is an addiction and how we can help the people struggling with it. |
